Yesterday (19 September) reports emerged that Rishi Sunak was likely to scrap what he sees as \u201cburdensome\u201d recycling schemes as part of plans to weaken some of the government\u2019s key net zero commitments. According to reports, the government was considering providing households with \u201cseven bins\u201d, six separate recycling bins and one for general waste, as part of its recycling strategy.<\/p>\n<p>During an interview with Radio 4, Home Secretary Suella Braverman warned net zero could potentially \u201cbankrupt the British people\u201d and described some of the government\u2019s current targets as \u201carbitrary\u201d. In a statement last night reacting to the reports, the PM said: \u201cFor too many years politicians in governments of all stripes have not been honest about costs and trade-offs. Instead they have taken the easy way out, saying we can have it all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis realism doesn\u2019t mean losing our ambition or abandoning our commitments. Far from it. I am proud that Britain is leading the world on climate change.\u201d \u201cWe are committed to Net Zero by 2050 and the agreements we have made internationally \u2013 but doing so in a better, more proportionate way.
