Plastics Europe\u2019s roadmap aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the overall plastics system by 28% by 2030, reaching net zero by 2050. It suggests circular plastics could meet 25% of European demand in 2030 and 65% by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>Plastics Europe called for minimum recycled content targets for key plastics applications to create a circular market and unlock investments, for chemical recycling infrastructure in particular. Rob Ingram, Plastics Europe\u2019s roadmap taskforce lead, called for greater collaboration, saying the plastics industry was too large, complex and integrated for any one part to deliver the circular economy alone.<\/p>\n<p>Among steps called for in the roadmap was support for development of recycling technologies to ensure maximum availability of circular feedstocks, and to accelerate permit procedures for building installations with circular industrial technologies. Regulators should prioritise environmental impact over material-specific policies and use a \u2018material agnostic\u2019 approach to regulations so their focus is on reducing materials rather than on the choice of material.
