The study \u2013 entitled \u2018Adding It Up\u2019 \u2013 further highlights that a significant portion of this pollution \u2013 approximately 116 kilotonnes \u2013 originates from plastic packaging materials alone.<\/p>\n<p>EA Earth Action stresses the potential dangers this could pose to human health \u2013 the vast majority of additives found are untested, unregulated and have been linked to various health conditions such as obesity, cancer and fertility issues. Everyday items such as textiles or vehicle tires provided a considerable contribution to the leakage into oceans at 37 and 35 kilotonnes respectively.<\/p>\n<p>EA Earth Action is calling on policymakers to select materials that are both more reusable and recyclable to help tackle the plastics crisis and drive towards a more circular economy.
