The study from transport sustainability company ICF said that \u201caround 8.5m tonnes\u201d of household rubbish is burned to make electricity when items cannot be recycled of reused, with a further 7.3m tonnes burned \u201cwith no energy recovery at all\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>MAG has called for the same waste that is being incinerated to make electricity, to be used to produce SAF at new refineries across the UK, \u201cgiving airports a direct supply and creating tens of thousands of green jobs\u201d. The research claimed that the reduction in carbon emissions from using bin bag waste to make SAF would be \u201cat least give times greater\u201d than that achieved by incinerating to generate electricity.<\/p>\n<p>ICF\u2019s study suggests that SAF made from waste emits \u201c89% less carbon\u201d than burning conventional jet fuel. The research claimed that if all the rubbish the UK currently incinerates was used to make SAF instead, the carbon saving \u201cwould be equivalent to the emissions of at least 46 million people flying from London Stansted Airport to Madrid every year\u201d.
