It said its members had \u201ca real fear\u201d they would be unable to collect from charity shops, recycling centres or community textile banks because processing plants had reached capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The TRA said the used textiles industry in the UK is valued at more than \u00a31bn annually and problems in it would affect charities and local authorities, as well as the logistics and packaging sectors. Another aggravating factor was that attacks on shipping on the Red Sea had disrupted global transport and \u201csignificantly escalated operational costs for textile merchants\u201d. Taken with increasing taxation from African and Asian markets, and mounting pressure to curb waste exports, meant \u201cthe industry faces immense financial strain\u201d, the association noted.<\/p>\n<p>The TRA said the Government should regulate the sector and introduce extended producer responsibility.
