WWF-Norway says the government\u2019s decision has breached Norwegian law, goes against the counsel of its own advisers, and sets a \u201cdangerous precedent\u201d. In January, Norway became the first country in the world to give the go-ahead to commercial deep-sea mining after parliamentary approval. This was despite warnings from scientists of \u201ccatastrophic\u201d consequences for marine life, and growing opposition from the EU and the UK, which support a temporary ban on environmental grounds.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal, which relates to Norwegian waters in the sensitive Arctic region, will expose an area of 280,000 sq km \u2013 larger than Britain.
