The partnership announced last week is designed to support increased investment into recycling infrastructure across Europe, and will see GreenDot scale its sorting and advanced recycling technology to supply PepsiCo with more circular polymers for use in packaging for brands such as Doritos, Walkers crisps and Pepsi.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration is expected to support PepsiCo Europe&#8217;s target to eliminate virgin fossil-based plastic in all its crisp and chip bags by 2030. &#8220;The partnership is critical to scaling our operations and working together towards our shared goal of creating a circular economy for packaging,&#8221; said Archana Jagannathan, chief sustainability officer at PepsiCo Europe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Advanced and mechanical recycling are part of a broader suite of recycling we are leveraging to bring us one step closer to this goal. Closing the loop between plastic and recycled content is a central part of our PepsiCo Positive agenda. We aim to reduce the waste we send to landfill in our direct operations and across our value chain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>GreenDot is already working with PepsiCo to develop new packaging for Sunbites crisps, which contains 50 per cent recycled plastic film packaging and was launched in the UK and Ireland late last year. The Germany-based firm&#8217;s CEO Laurent Auguste said its partnership with PepsiCo went further than extended producer responsibility (EPR) licensing requirements, would establish a new business model for packaging, and would help to close the loop between waste plastic and recycled content in packaging.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This agreement is an important milestone for the industry,&#8221; added. &#8220;It further paves the way towards a circular economy of plastic packaging, with the support of a new type of long-term collaboration between key players of the value chain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The firm is seeking to establish a network of recycling plants across Europe.
