During the debate, lawmakers denounced the court\u2019s \u201cinterference\u201d in Swiss democracy and one called the Strasbourg ruling \u201cerroneous\u201d as several older women who brought the case looked on.<\/p>\n<p>One of the members of parliament from the right-wing Swiss People\u2019s Party, which is the biggest party in parliament, appeared to mock the women, criticising them for bringing a case \u201cbecause they are a bit too hot in the summer\u201d. Michael Graber, from the Valais canton, was referring to their argument that the government\u2019s inadequate climate policies put them at risk of dying during heatwaves. \u201cIt\u2019s really disgraceful what just happened,\u201d Stefanie Brander, 68, told Reuters after the vote, shaking with anger. \u201cIt\u2019s an insult and a lack of respect of our rights which were confirmed by an international court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raphael Mahaim, a lawyer for the women\u2019s group and an MP for the Greens, said: \u201cFor me a red line was crossed. It is a dishonour for parliament.\u201d Outside the building, a small group of climate protesters sat held up signs saying \u201cbetrayed\u201d \u201cshocked\u201d and \u201calarmed\u201d.
