The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has this week launched a new two-year work plan, including plans to further consolidate the sustainability reporting landscape through closer ties with other standards and reporting bodies such as the Transition Plan Taskforce, GHG Protocol, CDP, Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, and Global Reporting Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The ISSB said it plans to support work to streamline and harmonise frameworks and standards for disclosures on new corporate net zero transition plans, in a bid to enhance disclosure requirements and reduce fragmentation in the market. For example, to ensure ongoing compatibility between the work of the GHG Protocol and the ISSB, the IFRS Foundation, which manages the ISSB, and the GHG Protocol have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure the ISSB is actively engaged in updates and decisions made in relation to greenhouse gas reporting standards and guidance. Through the partnership, a representative of the ISSB will be appointed as an observer on the GHG Protocol Independent Standards Board.<\/p>\n<p>The ISSB also yesterday published a Feedback Statement, confirming it will examine how it can work with relevant initiatives to meet the information needs of investors as it embarks on a research project on biodiversity, ecosystems, and ecosystem services. The ISSB has agreed that through the research it will consider how to build upon the recommendations of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, which was published in September 2023. &#8220;As we embark on our new two-year work plan that will see us strengthen and build out the global baseline of sustainability-related financial disclosures, I am grateful to our partners in the sustainability reporting landscape for their commitment to delivering an efficient, effective sustainability disclosure system for capital markets,&#8221; said ISSB chair Emmanuel Faber.<\/p>\n<p>Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures co-chair David Craig added that bringing nature-related issues into the global baseline for sustainability disclosures is a &#8220;critical next step&#8221; in encouraging companies to provide comprehensive material information about their risks and opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of the work programme comes as growing numbers of sustainability executives have gone public with concerns they are being swamped by too many over-lapping reporting requirements.
