Plans set out by the previous government will not deliver enough action to guide the UK towards net zero, today&#8217;s latest progress assessment from the Climate Change Committee (CCC) has warned.<\/p>\n<p>UK territorial greenhouse gas emissions are now less than half what they were in 1990, which the CCC hailed as a major achievement, but it warned that as it stands only a third of the emissions reductions required to hit the country&#8217;s legally binding decarbonisation 2030 targets are backed by credible policy plans to deliver them.<\/p>\n<p>Yet while admonishing various damaging green policy rollbacks, delays and mixed messaging from the government over the past year for leaving the UK at &#8220;serious risk&#8221; of missing its future climate goals, the report also stresses that there is still time to turn things around and get the net zero transition back on track \u2013 as long as urgent action is taken.<\/p>\n<p>The report therefore urges the new Labour government to pursue ambitious action to accelerate the UK&#8217;s decarbonisation across every sector of the economy, including energy, transport, buildings, industry and agriculture.
