European carmakers have voiced opposition to the idea of forcing producers to use a minimum share of green steel through EU law, as recently suggested by steelmakers, environmental groups, and German politicians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManaged trade for green steel should be avoided, and its use [should be] driven by the market,\u201d a spokesperson of ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, told Euractiv.<\/p>\n<p>The idea has been gaining momentum following European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen\u2019s re-election speech to the European Parliament in July, where she referred to plans to create \u201clead markets\u201d for clean materials as part of a \u201cClean Industrial Deal\u201d she aims to present within the first 100 days of her new Commission.
