In Canada, for example, approximately 58 per cent of the food we produce ends up in landfills, which is even higher than the global rate \u2013 including the U.S. \u2013 where an estimated one-third of all of the food that\u2019s produced ends up in landfills. All of which begs the question: What if there was a way to convert this wasted food into something that people can use every day?<\/p>\n<p>Researchers in Virginia Tech\u2019s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, in Blacksburg, Va., are attempting to do just that by developing biodegradable bioplastics from food waste to give those materials a new \u2013 and useful \u2013 life.
