The ATPC is comprised of around 90 experts drawn from 40 organisations, co-chaired by The World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) and Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI). The collective was created to deliver standards, practices and regulations to improve the robustness of company sustainability transition plans.<\/p>\n<p>The framework sets out guidance for assessors on how to build a rigorous, credible transition plan, based on a decade of learning. It is the first such guide to propose harmonised global assessment practices of plan credibility, ambition and achievability, and to reduce confusion stemming from the increasing number of assessment methods and tools on the market. The report sets out, among other things, the importance of considering nature, the just transition, and local contexts when creating transition plans.<\/p>\n<p>According to the guidance, a credible transition plan is one aligned with international decarbonisation goals; consistent with local plans depending on company operation; feasible within its timeline and reliant on the principles of consistency, long-term value, ambition and relevance\/transparency.<\/p>\n<p>This plan follows on from the work of the UK\u2019s own Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT), which unveiled its own guidance for transition plan credibility in 2023. That plan, heralded as the \u2018gold standard\u2019 climate disclosure framework, contained information for businesses on aligning with globally recognised standards and frameworks, and set out recommendations for publication of future plans.<\/p>\n<p>In turn, the TPT\u2019s guidance built on a global disclosure baseline developed by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and the work of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), both of which are TPT members.<\/p>\n<p>Ideally, the ATPC guidance framework will clarify and ease the process of creating a credible transition plan for global businesses.
