The three environmental NGOs are making the call to action shortly after Lidl GB unveiled a new target for plant-based proteins to account for 25% of protein sales by 2030. They would like retailers to set more ambitious targets for plant-based options to account for 60% of all protein sales.<\/p>\n<p>WWF, ProVeg International and the Green Protein Alliance have noted that, in these nations, consumer dietary preferences are already shifting. They believe that the onus is now on retailers to better cater to these preferences, and enable more rapid changes. Previous ProVeg surveys found that half of Brits are already reducing their meat intake, rising to 57% in France and 59% in Germany. Nine UK-based retailers, representing over 80% of the supermarket market share, have adopted the \u2018WWF Basket\u2019 methodology to report on food sales by protein source, including Tesco, Sainsbury\u2019s, Waitrose, Coop, Marks &amp; Spencer, Lidl GB and Aldi.<\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s Climate Change Committee (CCC) has recommended that Brits are encouraged to reduce their red meat and dairy consumption by 20% by 2030.
