The BIR said that the government interventions to restrict the free flow of recycled materials have \u201cintensified\u201d, including \u201cunjustified\u201d tax obligations, export quotas and bans.<\/p>\n<p>Calls for waste export bans in the UK have often resulted from concerns over so-called \u2018waste colonialism\u2019, but also from a desire to stimulate investment and protect local recycling sectors. It argues the recycling industry is largely responsible for innovations that have improved the collection, sorting and processing of end-of-life materials, but said predictable regulatory environments were needed for long-term investment decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Well-intentioned regulations that keep high-quality recycled products captive for future capacity needs are distorting trade and damaging destination markets that have already invested in green technologies, it continued.
