The funding will support cutting-edge green maritime technologies. The funding, launched under the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC6), will support cutting-edge green maritime technologies including electric vessels, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and wind power solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Innovate UK, the delivery partner for CMDC, will manage the allocation of funds, with applications set to open on 22 January and close on 16 April 2025.This latest round of funding, part of the Government\u2019s Plan for Change, aims to boost regional economies, attract investment and create jobs across coastal communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Government highlights that previous rounds of the competition have seen transformative impacts, supporting more than 300 organisations across the UK and unlocking more than \u00a3100m in private investment. Funded projects have included the installation of Britain\u2019s first electric chargepoint network for ports in the South West, a hydrogen research vessel retrofit in Wales, and the development of a state-of-the-art carbon capture system for ships.<\/p>\n<p>Maritime Minister Mike Kane said:\u202f\u201cThis new \u00a330m investment is part of our Plan for Change \u2013 growing the economy and making Britain a Clean Energy Superpower. \u201cI\u2019m proud to see this funding boost growth and create jobs throughout the UK, as well as ushering in an era of zero-emission shipping.\u201d The CMDC initiative, part of the \u00a3236m UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UKSHORE) programme, has now delivered a total of \u00a3159m in funding to accelerate the decarbonisation of the UK maritime sector.<\/p>\n<p>UK SHORE launched in March 2022 with a budget of up to \u00a3206m. As part of the CMDC, an advanced wind propulsion system, called \u2018the GT Wings AirWing\u2019, is being assembled at MMS Docks in Hull and will be fitted on a Carisbrooke Shipping vessel for sea trials scheduled in March 2025. The system is designed to reduce vessel emissions by up to 30%.
