The report emphasises that populations worldwide are already experiencing the effects of climate change through food system shocks, water insecurity, heat stress and the spread of infectious diseases. Without intervention, these impacts could lead to mass mortality, mass displacement, severe economic contraction and increased conflict.<\/p>\n<p>It adds that climate change impacts are materialising faster and more severely than anticipated, with extreme weather events surpassing previous model projections. Global temperatures over the past year have averaged 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, heightening the risk of the world breaching critical climate tipping points. Each fraction of a degree of additional warming, the report notes, increases the likelihood of catastrophic consequences.<\/p>\n<p>The authors argue that current global risk management practices fail to account for the interconnected and compounding nature of climate and nature risks. Policymakers often prioritise economic considerations while treating environmental degradation as an externality, resulting in a significant underestimation of the potential impacts.Traditional risk assessment methods, which focus on isolated risks, overlook cascading effects and systemic vulnerabilities, leading to inadequate responses.<\/p>\n<p>To address these gaps, the report proposes the creation of a Planetary Solvency risk dashboard to provide actionable insights for policymakers. It also advocates for the adoption of realistic and effective risk management principles, including recognising the interconnected nature of climate and socio-economic systems.<\/p>\n<p>Report lead author Sandy Trust said: \u201cYou can\u2019t have an economy without a society, and a society needs somewhere to live. \u201cNature is our foundation, providing food, water and air, as well as the raw materials and energy that power our economy.
