Among these, the insect industry stands out as an emerging sector with immense potential, driving progress in alternative protein solutions and resource management. Central and Eastern Europe, with its economic and industrial advantages, is particularly well-suited to lead this evolution and establish itself as a hub for innovation in insect-based technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae exemplify the transformative potential of insect farming. These larvae can rapidly convert organic matter into high-value feed ingredients. With a short production cycle and high efficiency, BSF larvae yield substantial amounts of protein and lipids while being non-invasive and environmentally benign. Their capacity to transform underutilised resources into valuable outputs underscores their pivotal role in advancing the circular economy. By significantly improving resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact, BSF-based farming is paving the way for a sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>Insect farming holds promise in improving energy efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint of food production. Compared to conventional livestock farming, insect farming requires significantly less land and water while generating fewer greenhouse gas emissions. For instance, a study by Van Huis (2013) highlights that insects require up to 80 per cent less feed than cattle to produce one kilogram of protein while emitting significantly lower amounts of methane and ammonia.
