The package is also set to entail the simplification of two major corporate reporting mandates that are already live \u2013 the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).<\/p>\n<p>The taxonomy and Directives could be delayed and key facets, such as double materiality reporting under CSRD, could be removed entirely. The EU is also considering scaling back the number of businesses mandated to comply. More than 70 civil society organisations in Global South countries have released a statement expressing concern and shock that, in closed-door meetings to negotiate the package earlier this month, they were not represented.<\/p>\n<p>The list of invited trade bodies and businesses tended heavily towards those who opposed the regulations in the first instance and are now in favour of extensive backtracking and\/or delays. Attendees include Business Europe, the European Roundtable for Industry and the European Fund and Asset Management Association. The organisations have called the process \u201copaque and hurried\u201d. They argue that the outcome of the Omnibus will not create meaningful positive change in regards to human rights violations, labour rights abuses, and harms to the environment, without the involvement of those on the ground in the nations from which the EU sources many commodities and products.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the CSDDD, the letter reads: \u201dWhen it committed to this groundbreaking legislation, the EU positioned itself as a world leader. It demonstrated that it was committed to shifting the global economy toward a model that prioritised shared prosperity and respect for human rights and the environment. \u201cEven before it came into force, many of us have been able to leverage the CSDDD to engage with businesses in our countries, leading to better practices on the ground.
