Recent research reveals that ammonia emission from swine and poultry facilities is so massive that it can be observed from space. This problem impacts the environment, as well as directly affects the health of thousands of people, especially in vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n<p>A study by the University of Virginia, published in ACS in January 2025, points out that regions with high concentration of industrial farms, such as North Carolina, have critical levels of pollution. \u201cWhat we do is use the ammonia satellite observations, which is a pollutant issued by industrialized agriculture. And both ammonia is broadcast from these facilities that we can see from space,\u201d explains Sally Pusede, teacher and researcher of the study.<\/p>\n<p>The environmental crisis generated by the contamination of ammonia in the United States is not only visible from space, but also directly impacts the health of thousands of people, especially in vulnerable communities. The lack of stricter regulations and the EPA cuts have generated concern about the future of air quality in affected areas.
