This is according to a new report from the Climate Group\u2019s EV100 initiative, which tracks corporate commitments to electric vehicle (EV) adoption. Despite economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions, nearly 70% of EV100 members reported maintaining momentum toward their 100% EV goal.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, these companies collectively added 127,000 electric vehicles (EV) to their fleets, bringing the total to more than 700,000 across 76 markets. The network\u2019s commitments now span 130 markets, with new pledges to deploy EVs in countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya and Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n<p>Some companies are reaching key milestones, with 20 EV100 members\u2014 including Aviva, Capgemini and Costain\u2014already converting at least 50% of their committed fleets to electric. To support the transition, businesses have installed EV charging infrastructure at 4,277 locations globally, providing access for employees and customers. Progress is also being made in the medium- and heavy-duty vehicle segment, where electrification has been slower due to technological and logistical challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Members of EV100+, a sub-group focused on heavier vehicles, have deployed nearly 400 electric trucks, signalling growing confidence in their viability. Climate Group\u2019s head of transport Dominic Phinn said: \u201cCompanies are leading the charge towards a cleaner, healthier transport future. \u201cBut for these businesses to continue to push their EV transitions forward, the right operating conditions also need to be put in place \u2014 and fast. Policymakers worldwide must urgently step up their efforts to create the conditions needed to speed up the transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In related news, new research has found that businesses are also making progress in reducing travel, with corporate flying by the world\u2019s biggest companies falling 34% between 2019 and 2023. This is according to the latest Travel Smart Ranking, which evaluates 326 US, European and Indian companies based on 11 indicators related to air travel emissions, reduction targets and reporting.<\/p>\n<p>The report found that while global multinationals are flying less, 44% of the companies ranked still have no targets for reducing business travel emissions. According to the report, these 25 companies are responsible for 6.9 million tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to 48,000 single flights from Paris to New York, or 1.3 times the yearly aviation emissions of Belgium.<\/p>\n<p>However, the ranking also found that companies with specific targets for business air travel see larger reductions. Those with air travel targets cut emissions by an average of 48%, while companies with less specific targets reduced emissions by 41%. Businesses with no travel targets saw only a 28% reduction.<\/p>\n<p>Travel Smart\u2019s head Denise Auclair said: \u201cThe shift towards purposeful travel and flying less is clear. Many companies are doing it successfully while remaining competitive. However, some laggards are putting overall progress at risk. \u201cIt\u2019s time for high polluters that don\u2019t have a target to follow the lead set by others.
