The work started with PCFWC, a collaboration of jurisdictions and food businesses aiming to tap down food waste along the West Coast. Its 16 signatories, including Albertsons, Sodexo, Aldi, and Bob\u2019s Red Mill, laid out what was happening within their operations and shared best practices to collectively advance as an industry.<\/p>\n<p>The work started with PCFWC, a collaboration of jurisdictions and food businesses aiming to tap down food waste along the West Coast. Its 16 signatories, including Albertsons, Sodexo, Aldi, and Bob\u2019s Red Mill, laid out what was happening within their operations and shared best practices to collectively advance as an industry. These retailers have cut their unsold food rates by 30 percent since 2019. It\u2019s a sound start, but they have plenty more work ahead of them.<\/p>\n<p>Other projects targeted specific products with high wastage and loss rates \u2013 a project that identified reasons for potato waste during production that led to a method to salvage 25 million pounds of spuds a year. Other projects identified supply chain hotspots and ultimately interventions for hard-to-salvage fruits.
