These included pledges that the European Commission \u201cwill argue for dropping or limiting the reference to unabated fossil fuels\u201d when negotiating the EU\u2019s position for COP28 with the bloc\u2019s 27 member states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnabated\u201d fossil fuels means that no technologies are being applied to limit emissions going into the atmosphere, a term often used to refer to Carbon Capture and Storage technology, or CCS.
