Rock Rail, UK Infrastructure Bank, and Aviva have teamed up to provide a new funding platform for zero emission bus financier \u2018Rock Road&#8217;. The partnership is backed by a debt facility from UK Infrastructure Bank and HSBC UK, which are committing the initial \u00a3100m of funding.<\/p>\n<p>The companies also confirmed the partnership has already signed its first deal to fund 60 battery-electric buses that will be leased to The Go-Ahead Group and deployed on routes throughout London. Rock Road, which is owned by Rock Rail and Aviva, offers a finance solution for UK bus operators and public transport authorities to help them decarbonise their fleet, while minimising capital outlay and outsourcing ownership risks associated with residual value and battery replacement.<\/p>\n<p>The companies said the partnership was aiming to establish a scalable funding model to accelerate fleet decarbonisation, crowd in further private capital, and reduce the sector&#8217;s reliance on public money to fuel the transition to zero emission buses.<\/p>\n<p>John Flint, CEO of the UK Infrastructure Bank, which is providing \u00a350m of debt financing in support of the venture, said investment was urgently needed to help decarbonise the transport sector. &#8220;The vast majority of the UK&#8217;s 36,500 buses are still diesel powered and so replacing these with a cleaner, greener alternative will be key in decarbonising the transport sector and achieving UK net zero targets,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This will require a massive scale up of investment.
