In a report, Pushing the boundaries of EPR policy for textiles, it said a comprehensive circular economy approach was the only feasible solution and should be widely adopted, including in countries that are the ultimate destination of textile waste.<\/p>\n<p>EPR would be a crucial policy mechanism to deliver the funding needed to establish large-scale separate textile collection systems and to cover the cost of managing all discarded textiles, not just those with high reuse value. Under EPR, responsibility lies with producers for collection, sorting and recirculation of their products. The foundation said this meant that well-designed EPR policies could significantly improve the costs and revenues for separate collection, sorting, reuse, repair and recycling of discarded textiles.<\/p>\n<p>It also said EPR could deliver transparency on global material flows, and attract capital investments in the infrastructure needed to reuse and recycle at scale. According to the foundation, more than 80% of discarded textiles are incinerated, landfilled or end up in the environment.
