The total number of EVs sold during July reached approximately 783,000. This is according to New AutoMotive\u2019s Global Electric Vehicle Tracker (GEVT). According to the tracker, the total number of EVs sold during July reached approximately 783,000.<\/p>\n<p>Year-to-date figures show that nearly 10.6 million EVs have been sold globally as of July 2024, marking a 16.3% increase compared to the same period last year. As per the analysis, this growth has been primarily driven by strong performances in China and the US, along with notable increases in 30 other countries, including six of the seven largest car markets. In China, sales of petrol and diesel vehicles fell by 20% in July compared to the previous year. The decline has been largely offset by an increase in plug-in hybrid and range-extended vehicle sales.<\/p>\n<p>In the US, EV sales reached 7.3% of the total market share in July, representing the second-best month of 2024 and the highest July on record. However, despite this progress, the combined percentage of hybrid and fully electric vehicles in the US still lags behind most European countries, except Bulgaria.<\/p>\n<p>Europe experienced varied results. Nineteen countries reported increased EV sales compared to July 2023, with Greece, Hungary and Denmark seeing sales rise by 50%. Norway, facing a ban on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle sales set to take effect in four months, saw EVs make up 92% of new vehicle sales.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, the European market faced challenges due to recent tariffs on Chinese-manufactured vehicles. Although 19 countries saw growth, 13 experienced declines in EV sales compared to the previous year. The UK, Belgium and Norway reported positive trends, with the UK achieving its second-best EV market share of the year, Belgium surpassing 30% market share for the first time, and Norway maintaining a dominant position with more than 92% of sales being battery electric.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden and the Netherlands saw a slight dip in sales but remained above the 30% mark. New AutoMotive\u2019s chief executive Ben Nelmes said: \u201cEV sales are on the rise, and it\u2019s encouraging to see such fast-paced, global growth. \u201cThe key to successfully transitioning to cleaner transport is sustained momentum.
