Under the EU\u2019s CO2 standards for cars and vans, carmakers must reduce the average CO2 emissions of their cars by 15% compared to 2021 levels, and adjusted to reflect the average weight of newly sold cars.<\/p>\n<p>The EU target is intended as a stepping stone towards the goal of only selling new zero-emission cars from 2035. While carmakers fear \u201cmulti-billion-euro fines\u201d from 2025 due to the lower-than-expected sales of electric cars, a new ICCT study released on Tuesday (15 October) argues that the needed market share increase for electric cars is achievable.
