According to a report published on Tuesday by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), a research organisation, 44% of climate experts from academia and industry believe that China\u2019s CO2 emissions will peak, at the latest, in 2025. In last year\u2019s survey, only 21% of experts gave the same response.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s official targets are to reach peak carbon emissions by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Beijing has also pledged to \u201cstrictly control\u201d the use of coal during the 14th \u201dfive-year plan\u201d, which covers the period until the end of 2025. China is also a world leader when it comes to investing in clean energy. Previous analysis by Lauri Myllyvirta, lead analyst at CREA, found that clean energy contributed a record 11.4tn yuan (\u00a3154.4bn) to China\u2019s economy last year, and was the biggest driver of GDP growth.<\/p>\n<p>As the country that is responsible for 90% of the growth in CO2 emissions since 2015, China\u2019s plans will shape the future of the global transition. But the country is generally conservative when it comes to targets.
