Parts of metropolitan Melbourne are among the worst affected, with Yarra Valley Water spending nearly $1 million each year to clear about 1,200 blockages. The fatberg, located 30 metres underground, was removed within three days by blasting it with high-pressure water. In April, a 15-metre-long fatberg took three weeks to remove, disrupting nearby homes and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the rate of sewer blockages in Victoria has decreased by 4.9 per cent between 2021-22 and 2022-23, according to the latest Essential Services Commission water performance report.
