Formula 1 has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. This initiative complements an earlier SAF programme developed with DHL, Formula 1\u2019s global logistics partner, creating a broader framework for teams and the FIA to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Combined, the two programmes are projected to reduce related emissions by more than 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) in 2024\u2014a 19% reduction compared to traditional aviation fuel used for air freight during flyaway events. Formula 1 has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030, aiming for a 50% reduction in emissions compared to its 2018 baseline. By 2023, the sport has already achieved a 13% reduction.<\/p>\n<p>Its inaugural impact report released this year revealed that logistics, specifically transporting equipment to events, is the series\u2019 largest source of emissions, accounting for 49% of its carbon footprint. Other sources include business travel (29%), event operations (12%), and facilities (10%), with racing car fuels contributing less than 1%.<\/p>\n<p>SAF is a critical part of Formula 1\u2019s alternative fuel strategy and logistics plan to achieve its net-zero goals. From 2026, Formula 1 cars will run on 100% advanced sustainable fuel, while Formula 2 and Formula 3 will adopt the same standard starting in 2024, building on their 55% usage of advanced sustainable fuel in 2023. Currently, FIA Safety and Medical cars also operate with 40% advanced sustainable fuel.<\/p>\n<p>Formula 1 uses a \u2018book and claim\u2019 system to account for the emissions reductions delivered by SAF. This ensures that SAF replaces fossil jet fuel elsewhere in the aviation sector while delivering equivalent emissions reductions for the sport. Formula 1\u2019s head of ESG Ellen Jones said: \u201cThrough collaboration with our Teams, the FIA and our partners, we are delivering on our promises to drive down the sports\u2019 carbon emissions and drive forward technologies that can have an impact beyond Formula 1. \u201cThis is the latest example of how stakeholders across the sport are aligned with our vision for a more sustainable F1, which we are thrilled to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the SAF initiative, Formula 1 has implemented several measures to reduce its carbon footprint.
