This is according to PwC\u2019s 28th Annual Global CEO Survey, based on responses from 4,701 chief executives representing every region of the world economy. This trend is being fuelled by growing evidence that green investments boost revenue and improve profit margins, alongside increasing alignment between executive incentives and sustainability metrics.<\/p>\n<p>PwC found that such investments were six times more likely to increase revenue than decrease it. For example, companies transitioning their product portfolios to include climate solutions are seeing faster revenue growth, according to research from Harvard Business School. Additionally, two-thirds of the CEOs surveyed reported that climate related investments had either reduced costs or had no significant impact on costs.<\/p>\n<p>This financial momentum has persuaded investors, with nearly 70% of respondents to PwC\u2019s Global Investor Survey 2024 agreeing that businesses should address sustainability and ESG issues, even if it impacts near-term profitability. While the financial outcomes of green investments have been largely positive, their impact varies significantly by region.<\/p>\n<p>The chief executives in Germany and France were more likely to report increased costs, with nearly half citing higher expenses tied to sustainability initiatives. In contrast, only 20% of US chief executives reported cost increases, while those in Mainland China were the most likely to report additional revenue (60%) and government incentives (46%) arising from their climate investments.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these regional differences, the report notes that a clear global trend is emerging: aligning climate-friendly investments with long-term business strategies drives stronger financial performance. This has led to a shift in how companies measure success, with 56% of chief executives globally tying executive compensation to sustainability metrics.<\/p>\n<p>PwC\u2019s analysis shows that the higher the percentage of compensation linked to sustainability, the greater the revenue generated from climate-conscious initiatives. Recent CDP research has found that tying executive pay to emissions goals makes a company more likely to achieve them. UK rises to second place as top global investment destination<\/p>\n<p>The survey also revealed that the UK has emerged as the second-most attractive global destination for international investment, surpassing Germany and China for the first time in the survey\u2019s 28-year history.The UK now trails only the US, with 14% of chief executives identifying it as the leading target for international capital expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>This newfound confidence in the UK comes as global chief executives increasingly venture into new sectors and markets to stay competitive. Over the past five years, more than a third of chief executives have expanded into new industries, with sustainability playing a key role in these strategies.
