In Luxembourg, more waste is thrown away (712kg per person per year), but more of it is recycled. On average, people in Luxembourg throw away 1.95kg of waste every day (712kg over the year). This is more than the EU average (1.4kg). However, 1.09kg of this waste is recycled, compared with just 0.6kg at European level, according to the latest Eurostat data.<\/p>\n<p>In Eurostat\u2019s \u2018ranking\u2019 of the countries that produce the most waste, Luxembourg comes third behind Austria (803kg) and Denmark (802kg). The smallest amount of waste per person was produced in Romania (303kg), Poland (367kg) and Estonia (373kg). While the quantity of waste is tending to increase, the proportion that is recycled is rising. In the EU, 246kg of waste per person per year will have been recycled in 2023, compared with 253kg in 2022 and 199kg in 2013. In Luxembourg, more waste is also being recycled: 401kg of waste per person was recycled, one kilo less than the previous year, but 116kg more than ten years ago.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, 25.2% of the total quantity of waste produced in the EU was not recovered and was incinerated, and 22.5% was landfilled.
