The increasing demand for AI-powered data centres has intensified corporate interest in nuclear energy. The announcement was made during CERAWeek 2025, an energy conference hosted by S&amp;P Global in Houston, Texas. There, representatives from 80 countries and numerous corporate executives\u2014many from the oil and gas industry\u2014gathered to discuss energy policy and investment.<\/p>\n<p>The World Nuclear Association (WNA) revealed that a total of 17 corporations, spanning industries such as technology, chemicals and energy, have joined the initiative. The companies signed the \u201cLarge Energy Users Pledge,\u201d committing to advocate for equitable access to financing for nuclear energy projects worldwide. More than a dozen global banks have also backed the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Google\u2019s head of clean energy and decarbonisation technologies Lucia Tian said: \u201cWe are proud to sign a pledge in support of tripling nuclear capacity by 2050, as nuclear power will be pivotal in building a reliable, secure and sustainable energy future. \u201cGoogle will continue to work alongside our partners to accelerate the commercialisation of advanced nuclear technologies that can provide the around-the-clock clean energy necessary to meet growing electricity demand around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The push to expand nuclear capacity stems from a broader international effort that began at the COP28 climate summit in 2023, where more than 20 countries, including the US, initially supported the goal.
